Arsenal are ‘most advanced’ for Premier League star as Newcastle enter contest with ‘ambitious strike’

Newcastle United have entered the race to sign West Ham midfielder Declan Rice in the summer, but Arsenal are still considered favourites, reportedly.

The England international has emerged as one of the most impressive young midfielders in the Premier League with a number of clubs looking into signing him in the summer.

Rice is ready to move forward this summer after giving West Ham six full seasons of service with the England international by speaking publicly about his desire to play Champions League football as soon as possible.

And with West Ham currently battling for relegation it is impossible for that to happen at the London Stadium next season, leading to the conclusion that he will make a permanent move this summer.

A recent report in The independent he insisted Arsenal have already made «back channel offers» to ensure they secure his signature on personal terms that should be «easy to order».

And it seems extremely likely that he will now move to Arsenal with Manchester United focused on signing a centre-forward, Manchester City thought they were no longer interested and Liverpool are unlikely to raise the £100m needed to get Rice in the summer.

But talk about SPORTS state that other interest could now come from Newcastle United with the Magpies eyeing the «outside possibility of an ambitious coup» for Rice.

The West Ham midfielder «is on Newcastle’s radar if they decide to step away from their cautious approach and spend big in the summer», but Arsenal are still his «most likely destination».

The report adds that the 24-year-old is «almost certain to leave» and Arsenal are «most advanced with Rice excited by the prospect of a move to north London».

Speaking in February 2022 about his desire to play in the Champions League, Rice said: “I’ve always said it, I don’t want to have a career where I haven’t won anything.

“Growing up as a kid I saw all these top players win trophies, win the Premier League, win the Champions League.

“Me as a football fan and player I want to win the best stuff, I want to win the Premier League, I want to lift that trophy, I want to win the Champions League, I want to win the FA Cup, League Cup, even with England, I want to win everything.

“If you don’t have that ambition as a footballer, why do you play? It’s the best moments of your life winning those trophies.

“I thought about it before, what would those days be like lifting that trophy? Next day, night out after. I definitely want to have those experiences of winning trophies and being the best I can be.
