Arteta discusses “exceptional” Aubameyang between links with Chelsea; he praises “unity” at Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists he is “very grateful” for what Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has done for the club during his time in North London.

In recent weeks Aubameyang has been linked to a transfer to the Gunners’ London rivals Chelsea.

“All or nothing: Arsenal” divides opinion on Arteta. And Aston Villa is in trouble

Speaking on Friday, the head coach of the Blues Thomas Tuchel was asked about the Gabonese strikerrevealing that he has a “close connection” with his former Borussia Dortmund player.

And unsurprisingly, Arteta’s press conference on Friday included some questions about the 33-year-old.

The Spaniard was asked if he regretted how he handled the situation surrounding Aubameyang last season.

The Gabonese captain was removed from the club’s armband in December following a disciplinary violation and was eventually allowed to join Barcelona for free in the winter transfer window.

“Listen, it’s been a long time since this happened,” Arteta said (quotes away Football London). “I can’t go back every time there is a series. I have made my comments on this.

“I have been very clear and honest with my opinion. What has been done has always been done to defend the club and put it in the best possible position, and always be as clear, honest and coherent as possible ”.

In the docuseries “All or Nothing: Arsenal” it was revealed that Arteta had a “catalog” of Aubameyang’s “minor offenses” and a reporter asked if he expected Chelsea to ask for the dossier he kept on the player.

He replied: “Auba is an exceptional player. He has done so much for us. He was our captain and I think we must be grateful, also very grateful, for what he has done for this club. “

On whether he will receive a good reception at the Emirates if he returns: “I hope he does it because I think he deserves it.

“There are moments in life, there are moments in your career and sometimes the trajectory or goal of each individual is different from the clubs and you have to respect that.”

There’s a huge emphasis on club culture in Amazon’s documentary and how Arteta dealt with it this time around last year, however, he insists he’s now satisfied with where the club is.

“I’m really happy with where we are, the people we have in the club and what we’re building,” he said. “I couldn’t be happier than this.

“It was the club’s vision to completely change it and create and install (a culture) that made the people who work in the club proud and responsible for their work.

“I think we have it and I think you can see that level of commitment and passion conveyed to our fans. That’s why there is so much unity in the club. “

When asked if the players are buying what he is trying to build, as well as his famous non-negotiable, Arteta replied: “The first thing we talk about is what we will expect from them, what are they making to expect from the club, what are they. our values, how we want to behave and be perceived.

“It is our passion, and it is what we love to do, and to do it we have to get along. There are a lot of people, the clubs are getting bigger every day, and you have to have that respect first to have fun together. “

It was a busy summer transfer window at Emirates, and Arteta was asked if he had heard the rumor that Manchester City are interested in Kieran Tierney.

His response: “No, and you know I will not comment on individual cases.”

After Pablo Mari’s departure this week, Arteta was asked if other players are expected to leave before the window closes.

He said: “We also had Bernd, we had Lucas Torreira. There were a few and we also had Flo Balogun on loan.

“We are still willing to finalize the squad the way we want.

“Suppose we can add something grand. But there are also some players where we still have to find the right playing time for them because, at the moment, I think it will be difficult. “

Arteta revealed that Takehiro Tomiyasu, Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe have all been “reinstated” in training, but only “some of them” will be in the squad to face Leicester City on Saturday following injury.

As for Tierney, “he looks in perfect condition now and ready to go” after a long knee injury.
