Chelsea face Real in the quarterfinals as Guardiola returns to Bayern

Chelsea will face holders Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, while Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will return to Bayern Munich.

The draw for the round of 16 and the bottom four of the competition was made on Friday.

Chelsea and Manchester City were the only Premier League sides in the table after Liverpool and Tottenham were eliminated by Real Madrid and AC Milan respectively.

The first team chosen was reigning European champions Real Madrid, who will face Graham Potter’s side.

Carlo Ancelotti returns to Stamford Bridge once again after knocking the Blues out of competition last season.

Inter Milan were then drawn against Benfica, meaning at least one underdog will be in the semi-finals.

Manchester City were drawn against Bayern Munich with the two favorites for the tournament going head-to-head.

Finally, Milan will face Napoli in an all Serie A draw.

Milan or Napoli will face either Inter or Benfica in the semi-finals, meaning the other semi-final will be between winners Chelsea-Real Madrid and Manchester City-Bayern Munich.

The first leg of the round of 16 will be played on 11 and 12 April, while the second leg will start the following week.
