Chelsea are said to be the latest club to join the race to sign Everton star Anthony Gordon this summer.
Along with Richarlison, Gordon stood out as a sore for Everton last season, securing Premier League status with one game to go.
However, it was a scorching campaign for the Toffees. Gordon’s emergence was one of the only positive aspects of the 2021/22 mandate.
What every Premier League club still needs as the transfer deadline approaches
Newcastle and Tottenham have been linked with Gordon in recent months, but last month Everton boss Frank Lampard insisted the winger is “not going anywhere”:
“He worked on it (the new team number). You have to earn number 10, “Lampard said evertontv.
“I understand this desire for numbers with the players. I was lucky, I fell in number eight in my career.
“I didn’t go looking for him, but I understand how important it may seem to you. But now I feel absolutely, especially with the 10 because he has some magic, some style, and Anthony has it.
“He has it in his style. I told him, I don’t want him to try to think that he is now pirouetting on the half way line.
“We need him to do what he was doing last year more goals and assists that Anthony is so hungry for. But if he absolutely earned it and he’s a bond with the crowd, a bond with the fans, a local guy who gives it all, a great talent.
“It’s not going anywhere. He is our player and that was an extremely important thing for me, he is the kind of player we want to build with to move forward. I’m happy he got his number 10 of him, but now I want him to keep earning it. “
This could prove wishful thinking on Lampard’s part as Chelsea are “interested” in Gordon, second Sky Sports.
An anonymous source even informed the platform that the Blues have “submitted an offer of 40 million pounds” for the English.
Despite Everton insisting that Gordon is not for sale, Sky Sports understands that a £ 50m offer will be enough to win over the 21-year-old this summer.
Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano also enterssuggesting that Chelsea are “discussing a new proposal internally”.
This is said to be a player swap deal, with Everton “interested in Conor Gallagher and other Chelsea players”.
Romano points out that Gallagher’s “preference” is to stay at Chelsea. The midfielder enters the last five minutes in the frantic 2-2 draw against Tottenham on Sunday.
