Liverpool, Arsenal delighted as Newcastle refuse to ‘break salary structure’ for two signings worth £150m

Newcastle are reportedly not «won’t be breaking their salary structure» so Liverpool and Arsenal are more likely to sign Mason Mount and Declan Rice respectively.

The Magpies have significant funds at their disposal since the Saudi-led takeover of the club was completed in 2021.

Newcastle have spent over £150m on new signings this season with Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman being their most notable additions.

This expense helped Eddie Howe’s side push for a place in the Champions League. They are currently fourth in the table and three points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham with one game left.

Newcastle United are expected to be busy in the transfer market again this summer as they prepare for their return to play in Europe.

But The daily mail report that «Newcastle will not shatter their wage structure by looking for stars like Declan Rice and Mason Mount, even if they qualify for the Champions League.»

They have made a ‘demand’ for Mount but the financial aspects of a deal for the Chelsea man are ‘prohibitive’. Newcastle also have a «decided interest» in Rice «but the figures are similar to those of his English team-mate».

There will be a «huge» boost to Newcastle’s budget if they get into the top four, but they are keen to «invest that money into the squad».

Bruno Guimaraes – who earns around £120,000 a week – is currently Newcastle’s best player. The report adds that «managers are also aware of the knock-on effect doubling the maximum salary would have on others in the locker room.»

The report adds: ‘Howe – as well as the club hierarchy – would like to pursue the likes of Mount and Rice given their elite-level skill and good natures, sources are keen to underline that the success of their strategy recruitment process so far has been built on identifying value, instead of paying premium prices for proven Premier League players.’

Monte – valued at £70 million – is attracting considerable interest from Liverpool, while Rice could cost up to £80m this summer and is Arsenal’s main target.

The Daily Mail report reveals Leicester City’s James Maddison ‘remains on’ Newcastle’s target list. they add.

‘Leicester’s James Maddison remains on the list, although rumors that have returned in recent months have been of the midfielder preferring a move to London amid interest from Tottenham.

‘One name that has resurfaced in recent conversations has been that of Khephren Thuram, a midfielder for Nice and France. Chelsea and Liverpool have also been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old.

‘Meanwhile, Manchester United’s Scott McTominay has long been admired by Howe, but the club has a limit on his valuation, should their top four rivals demand an unrealistic figure. Bournemouth’s Philip Billing could become a reasonably priced option for the squad, especially if the Cherries are relegated.’
