Man Utd are reportedly planning a “sensational swap deal” which would see them sign Denzel Dumfries from Serie A giants Inter Milan.
Dumfries have been consistently linked with a move to the Premier League over the past couple of years. This comes amid his great performances for the Netherlands in major tournaments.
Erik ten Hag faced Dumfries regularly during their spell together in the Eredivisie at Ajax and PSV respectively.
The defender joined Inter in 2021 and has shone for the Italian side over the past two seasons. He is being linked elsewhere due to the club’s uncertain financial situation.
Last month it was reported that Ten Hag could have a big part to play as Man Utd look to sign Dumfries from Inter Milan.
The Red Devils currently have Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to choose from at right back, but the former Crystal Palace man is attracting interest from rival Premier League clubs.
Football Attaché report that Man Utd “could seal a sensational swap deal with Inter Milan involving Lindelof and Dumfries this summer”.
Ten Hag is a “big fan” of Dumfries. It is noted that the manager “considered a permanent move” for a right-back in January, but at the time United were “unable to raise the necessary funds to complete a deal”.
In the meantime, Inter ‘was widely linked’ to Lindelof. They are looking for a centre-back to replace Milan Skriniar, who is expected to move to PSG on a free transfer in the summer.
This proposed swap deal is said to be a “real possibility” and could be a “deal to watch” during the summer transfer window.
Lindelof has played just 20 times in all competitions this season and that includes just five Premier League appearances. He has been behind Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the hierarchy.
Martinez insisted he “really enjoys” playing alongside Varane.
”Rafa [Raphael Varane] he is an extraordinary player”, began Martinez, in Seville, this evening. “I really like playing with him.
“We always have fun [being together] in training, but the good thing is [we are] to work hard. We are doing an amazing job, but we [also] have Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.
“They are always ready and I am happy because we have a very good relationship. When you have those players and that connection, you can have a clean sheet and you can play [with confidence at] the back.”
When asked about Man Utd’s pursuit of more trophies, Martinez added: “We have really good players. We are Manchester United and we want to win every trophy. We have to work hard, which we are doing now.
“We have to go match by match and believe in it, but we have to fight for every title.”
