Hall of Fame fighter and Golden Boy Promotions honcho Oscar De La Hoya said so by FightHub Marcos Villegas who believes an announcement for the highly anticipated Ryan Garcia-Gervonta Davis fight will come “in the next few days.” If true, this is great news for the fans, extremely great news. The undefeated, tough and hugely popular young wrestlers have long been rumored to go head to head on April 15th. De La Hoya, who appears to be Garcia’s promoter, told the Villegas that the fight is indeed close to being signed. “It’s not official yet,” De La Hoya said. “It will be done? Yes it will.
De La Hoya has indeed stated that the gears of the major have already begun to move, even if the contract has yet to be signed. “Ryans is already in camp,” De La Hoya said. “He’s out there in Miami, and Gervonta, he’s a beast, he’s already out there training.” If public comments count for anything, it’s clear both Davis and Garcia are eager to take the plunge. As for the unsigned fight, De La Hoya says, “I don’t want to get into it – it’s a lot of little details, but they’re minor, they’re just minor.
And when does De La Hoya think the signatures will finally appear on paper? “I think in the next few days,” he says. “In the coming days we will publish the official announcement.” De La Hoya then goes on to discuss possible locations for the fight. “The front runners are MGM and T Mobile (both in Las Vegas),” he says. “I love MGM, but T Mobile has more places where you can fit more people.” On the surface at least, De La Hoya seems pretty confident. “I feel strongly that this fight here is going to blow him out of the water.”
And why the negotiations are slow? “It’s a very complex business – very, very complex,” she says. “It takes many hours, many negotiating back and forth.” De La Hoya rightly believes that a Garcia-Davis fight will be a remarkable event. In a boxing world where big fights don’t seem to happen as much as they do, the fan base might really need a boost. “This fight here is so important,” says De La Hoya. “April 15thth is going to make history and beyond.”
