Sarfaraz Khan has recently made headlines for two separate reasons namely the fact that he was passed over for the India Test squad and the ridiculous number of runs he scored for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy.
Former Mumbai captain Milind Rege believes that Sarfaraz Khan’s role should be one to perform and score points rather than exposing his frustrations in front of the people.
Despite scoring a staggering 2441 runs in total in Ranji’s previous three seasons, the young batsman was not selected for the Indian red ball team. Cricket fans and former players have expressed outrage when his name was recently ruled out of India’s four-Test series against Australia.
Sarfaraz has often spoken about the way he has treated India. The 25-year-old said he was disappointed he still hadn’t received a call-up from India. He also spoke about his interaction with BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma, who promised to pick Sarfaraz for the Bangladesh tour last year.
It can be devastating to be denied an India cap after scoring 928 runs in the 2019-20 season, another 982 the following season and another 556 runs in six matches.
Comments on Sarfaraz’s statement
“Keep performing, but making absurd comments won’t make it better.” Sarfaraz should stop criticizing his choice of India. His responsibility is to record the races. “Rege, he needs to concentrate on his batting,” the Mumbai chief selector said at noon.
Rege is aware of the fierce rivalry between the members of the Indian team, despite the tragic circumstances of Sarfaraz. Rege also thinks Sarfaraz has nowhere to fit in yet as there could be three or four players competing for a single position.
Due to the presence of wicketkeeper Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and possibly all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in India’s middle order, Sarfaraz will have to wait his turn.
“There is no denying Sarfaraz’s outstanding performance.” However, there must be a place in the [Indian Test team’s] batting order. His physique is unmatched and incredible. I believe that she will have her opportunity wherever there is one. But where is the position right now? she added.
Due to middle order nucleus of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly, Mumbai batting coach Muzumdar one of the best batsmen of his generation never got chance to wear India cap . Despite the passage of time, he is still held in high regard as the most deserving player who has never played for India.
