Watch: ‘What’s This Stroke’ – Ravindra Jadeja attempted to grind away as freak acceleration backfires

Ravindra Jadeja Mistimed A Random Bowling Catchphrase From Todd Murphy To Be Dismissed On The Fourth Morning Of The Ahmedabad Test.

Watch: After batting patiently for 80 deliveries, Ravindra Jadeja mistimed a slog trying to accelerate, delivering an easy catch midway through Todd Murphy’s bowling on the fourth morning of the last India-Australia Test at Ahmedabad.

Jadeja had done all of the hard work yesterday (day 3) and geared up. He had been selective with his bowling and had shown respect for the bowlers until this morning (day 4) when he decided to tackle them in a rather unusual way.

Prior to his final dismissal, Jadeja had survived a pair of lbw whoops and botched another aerial shot attempt that landed in no man’s land. It seemed he had come out with a clear plan to accelerate after hitting 54 balls to get to 16 yesterday (Day 3).

But the plan failed when he ended up missing a second consecutive aerial shot. Todd Murphy was clever with his subtle variations in pace and trajectory. The wicket ball was pushed slightly faster at 90km/h which meant Jadeja could not pass under it and get the elevation he wanted, handing an easy catch to Usman Khawaja in midfield.

Sunil Gavaskar, who was in the commentary box during the sending off, was furious at Jadeja’s shot selection. “Look at that! What is this shot?” he exclaimed. Gavaskar also questioned India’s tactics. said.

This sacking gave Australia a window of opportunity to get back in the game, especially with the availability of Shreyas Iyer with the bat in doubt following his complaints with back pain.
