Carragher rebukes Spurs for ‘shameful’, urges Levy to sack ‘Conte’s partner’ for ‘adequate coach’

Jamie Carragher took to Twitter to crash Tottenham during their embarrassing 6-1 defeat to ‘brilliant’ Newcastle United on Sunday.

As you surely know, Spurs were beaten by their top four rivals and dropped five goals after 21 minutes of play.

Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy both scored twice, while Joelinton and substitute Callum Wilson each scored one.

Newcastle were obviously brilliant and deserved to win, but the result is all about the Spurs and what they were like.

Pressure is mounting on Cristian Stellini, who is now second favorite behind Nottingham Forest’s Steve Cooper the next Premier League manager to leave.

Losing 6-1 in Newcastle before two crucial matches against Manchester United and Liverpool is less than ideal, but that is the reality of the situation for Stellini and his players.

Sunday’s worrying defeat was obviously met with a lot of backlash on social media.

From Spurs fans who didn’t know whether to laugh, cry or punch a wall to rival supporters roaring with laughter, former England defender Carragher has called the Londoners a «disgrace» and questioned the decision to Stellini to deploy Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic as full-backs in a back four.

“Newcastle are brilliant; they have been all season,” Carragher tweeted. “Tottenham are a disgrace! How did they get into a back four for the first time this season, with full-back Porro not knowing how to defend and Perisic a full back?

Carragher then questioned Daniel Levy’s decision to appoint Stellini as coach following Antonio Conte’s sacking and believes it is already time to replace him.

“Get in a real coach right away, not Conte’s partner,” he added.

Meanwhile, former Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer says he thinks Conte is right in what he said during his scathing assessment of Spurs which ultimately led to his sacking.

“There was a lot of talk about Conte when he came out with his rant about Spurs players but that is why he gave the vent,” Dyer told Sky Sports.

“Everything he said in that press conference came true. Spurs players have cost the manager his job, they are that bad.

«We said full-backs would be a problem, central defenders were scarce, midfielders were scarce and they were put to the sword.»

Dyer added: “It’s a shame Spurs have been so poor. They have let the fans down, they have let down everyone associated with the club.»
