Alexis Mac Allister scored a 99th-minute penalty to give Brighton a deserved win at home to Manchester United in what was a feisty affair.
Erik ten Hag made four changes for the Premier League’s visit to the south coast, bringing in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Fred, Antony and Anthony Martial.
Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Marcel Sabitzer and Jadon Sancho were left on the bench.
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, who overcame illness to be at the Amex Stadium, recalled Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Kaoru, Mitoma and Facundo Buonanotte after Saturday’s 6-0 win against Wolves.
Solly March and Deniz Undav were substituted, while Joel Veltman and Pascal Gross were absent from the Albion squad.
The match remained goalless after a spirited 45-minute start in which United got the better of chances.
Antony fired wide after Bruno Fernandes’s pass broke through the Albion defense within two minutes, before Kaoru Mitoma intercepted a pass from slightly hit Victor Lindelof and ran across only to hit David De Gea’s head with Julio Enciso waiting for a tap-in.
United goalkeeper De Gea was visibly shaken by the unconventional stop but was deemed fit to continue after receiving treatment.
Casemiro later made his way narrowly towards Ten Hag’s side, while Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele made clever saves to deny low-lying efforts from Marcus Rashford and Martial.
Brighton snatched the lead in added time when Alexis Mac Allister converted from the penalty spot after Luke Shaw was penalized for handball following a VAR intervention.
