Newly married super flyweight Indeya Rodriguez faced Miyo Yoshida in a scheduled eight-round date on Thursday night. The fight was a glamorous part of the Broadway Boxing premiere on DAZN streaming service and was broadcast live from Sony Hall in Manhattan. Rodriguez was certainly game. Also, the fighter fired an impressive shot. However, in the first four rounds it appeared that Japan’s Yoshida was the more dominant of the two.
Make no mistake, Rodriguez was fighting well, but it was Yoshida who was pushing the action through what appeared to be a size and possibly superior strength midway through the fight. Yet it was Rodriguez who was shooting his foe in the penultimate seventh round. Rodriguez continued to fight into the eighth, though Yoshida may have been the one who landed the cleanest punches. In the end, it was Yoshida who came out of the ring with the decision win.
“With this I am able to take one step further towards my goals and dreams,” Yoshida said (through a translator) following his American debut. The Japanese fighter now calls New York home.
