Tennis great Andy Murray celebrated his 36th birthday on Monday, but he didn’t miss the opportunity to poke fun at the recent «cake door» drama at the Madrid Open.
Three-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz tweeted earlier this month that he wanted a bigger cake than he received at Caja Magica.
Of course Murray was referring. Alcaraz and Arina Sabalenka’s cake controversy. Reigning US Open champion Alcaraz received a two-layer cake from Madrid Open organizers as he celebrated his 20th birthday on May 5.
Australian Open champion and world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka celebrated her 25th birthday on the same day, but organizers gave her a much smaller cake, much to the chagrin of the tennis community.
Former world number 1 Murray tweeted: «If I don’t get a cake of equal size if not a little bigger than Alcaraz I will be absolutely furious 😡.»
If I don’t get a cake of the right size, it will be absolutely arrogant if it is not a little bigger than Alcaraz today

The world number 42 is currently preparing to take part in the ATP Challenger Tour Paribas Primrose Bordeaux in the southwestern French port city of Bordeaux.
But the cake Murray received from the organizers was so, so, so modest, he was supposedly «absolutely pissed off.» Although the organizers had the fans sing «Happy Birthday», it certainly wasn’t the greatest rendition you’ll ever hear.
When the crowd sings for you…and there is cake 🙈🥳🎂

Australian tennis player Ellen Perez replied, “Did you get the world’s smallest cake by asking for the biggest cake? I doubt they know, but they are very good.
The 36-year-old Murray, who lost to Fabio Fognini at the Italian Open last week, will return to action on Wednesday as he faces either Stan Wawrinka or qualifier Hugo Blanchett in the second round of the ATP Challenger. Visit event.
The Scot won the Open Aix Provence title two weeks ago, 175kg.
