WTA Tour thanks to new big three

Iga Swiatek speaks to the media

Mats Wilander believes the WTA Tour is well-prepared when it comes to star players, with Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka competing against Iga Swaytech.

Wilander believes teammate Chris Evert can challenge the men’s big three to make an impact on the game.

He also explores what kind of player should come out to break these three tenures.

Wilander touched on the characteristics of each player and how closely they resemble each other among the members of the Big Three.

He feels that Swiatek will be the WTA Tour’s own version of Rafael Nadal.

He reckons Rybakina, who is calm, determined and difficult to read, has qualities that make her a Novak Djokovic.

Wilander believes Sabalenka’s strength lies on the fast courts and floors, and feels she would be a strong candidate to add to the Wimbledon crowd’s Australian Open victory.

The one thing missing from the tour now is that former world No. 1 Justin Henin feels like a very good disruptor.

«This is a wonderful tribute to Sabalenka, Rybakina and Swiatek,» Wilander said. Eurosport

“I see what Chris Evert meant when he called Roger, Rafa and Novak, the big three, because they all have their own tools, and when they’re playing their best, I don’t think so. A women’s player who can disturb them at the moment.

«I think you need someone [former world No. 1] Justine Henin can break the rhythm of Sabalenka, Rybakina and Sviatek.

“There are places where they are better and I think they’ve proven that.

“I think Swiatek will dominate, she will be the Nadal of the ‘big three’.

“I think Sabalenka needs a little bit faster courts because I believe she moves a little bit better than Rybakina, but she is not as consistent in terms of strokes and serves. So she prefers fast court which is still the Australian Open.

“And now you see Rybakina, she can play with anything. Absolutely. And because Rybakina is calm, helpful, grounded, and willing to learn more, she may ultimately be the one the other two worry about the most.

But it’s that attitude that I think makes Djokovic out of the three, which means she doesn’t really worry about the other two.
