Sheikh Jassim to ‘signal his intentions’ by making PSG Man Utd star ‘summer marquee signing’

Manchester United will try to sign PSG superstar Neymar if he is bought by Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani, according to a report.

Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the current favorites to buy the Red Devils from the Glazers.

Both had initially set out plans to complete a full takeover, however, a partial takeover looks like the more likely scenario right now with some Glazer family members keen to stick around.

The Glazers reportedly want at least £6bn for the Premier League club.

It is fair to say that the club’s current owners are not well liked and many United fans are anxiously waiting to see how the sale of the club pans out.

However, the potential signing from Sheikh Jassim was met with a mixed reception.

Obviously, Qatar has gained a negative reputation over the years by hosting the 2022 World Cup.

A sale to a Qatari would disappoint many fans, while others will simply be relieved to have a new owner who will be spending his own money to improve the club’s squad and infrastructure.

The signing of Neymar would certainly attract fans and show that the new owners mean business.

And that’s what Sheikh Jassim will be looking to bring if he can buy Manchester United, according to The Sun.

Perhaps this is propaganda used to become the favorite party to take over, similar to a politician trying to win votes. Or perhaps this is a signing that Qatar legitimately wants to make.

As mentioned above, he should engage fans as he will display a great deal of ambition, but Neymar is a player who comes with a significant amount of baggage.

Not only is he prone to injury but he earns £616,000 a week and has come under scrutiny for his poor attitude and work ethic.

Obviously a world class footballer who is arguably the third best of this generation behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Neymar would make any team better, but is he worth the money and baggage?

The Sun report said Sheikh Jassim wants the PSG forward to be the club’s «main signing this summer», if his takeover bid is successful.

«One of his first actions» would be to sign Neymar, who would «signal the intentions of the new owners».

It has been reported that PSG are willing to part ways with Neymar after signing him from Barcelona for a record £198million in the summer of 2017.

The 31-year-old is not expected to play again this season after sustaining an ankle injury in March.

In 29 appearances this season, Neymar has scored 18 goals and assisted 17 goals.
