Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s «embarrassing» performance against Arsenal on Tuesday left former Chelsea player Craig Burley absolutely furious.
The Blues were defeated 3-1 by bitter rivals at the Emirates in a performance that showed just how far apart the two London clubs are.
Martin Odegaard scored an impressive brace before Gabriel Jesus made it 3-0 before the break. Noni Madueke managed to score in the second half but could do nothing to prevent another defeat for Chelsea.
It was Frank Lampard’s sixth successive defeat since being appointed Chelsea manager, the first in the club’s 120-year history.
This leaves the Blues 12th in the Premier League table, with them on course for their worst season since 1994.
However, Burley vented his frustrations towards Aubameyang following the defeat to Arsenal, who, unsurprisingly, spent four years at the Emirates.
Incredibly, Aubemeyang only managed to touch the ball nine times during the match, and four of those were kick-offs. Now, Burley says the striker shouldn’t even enter the club’s training ground.
«Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shouldn’t wear a Chelsea shirt anymore, he shouldn’t even be admitted to the training ground,» Burley said.
“It wasn’t [about a lack of] service – walked 45 minutes. It’s embarrassing.
“Frankly, if I’m on the bench and I’m not playing because of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, what is he telling me?
“I’m thinking about a different sport. He doesn’t care, it’s a responsibility. It’s embarrassing.»
Aubameyang was substituted at half-time against his former club, where he scored 92 goals in 163 appearances between 2018 and 2022.
However, his form at Chelsea has been nothing short of shocking. He has played 15 Premier League games this season, scoring just three goals.
Indeed, Graham Potter effectively let Aubameyang out of his Champions League squad in February – showing how little the sacked Chelsea boss thought of him.
Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing the 33-year-old on a cut-price deal this summer, so he probably won’t be staying with the Blues for much longer.
Although, based on his performance on Tuesday, frankly, it would be stunning to see him lead the line for the Spanish giants next season.
Now, Lampard and company’s attention is focused on the five remaining games, against Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle.
One would think that the former Chelsea midfielder could finally pick up his first point against the Cherries. If not, he could end up getting fired for the second time this season.
