Tsendbaatar Erdenebat, the undefeated Los Angeles – via Mongolia – junior lightweight put his undefeated 5-0 record on the line Thursday night when he faced 20-9-6 Edy Valencia in a scheduled eight-round match. The fight was broadcast live on DAZN from Manhattan’s Sony Theater as part of a Broadway Boxing card. Erdenebat decided to land sharp and crisp punches at the start of the fight.
Both men were quick and sharp in the early rounds but Erdenebat appeared to have the edge through excellent footwork. The man’s stick and move strategy was both fluid and impressive. In the middle of the round it became clear that Valencia would have to do something impressive to turn the tide of the fight. Indeed, the tough Erdenebat seemed content to simply take out his man to get into rounds and experience rather than push for his third consecutive knockout.
As the rounds went on, Erdenebat continued to play Ali against Valencia’s Liston, moving around and generally making himself difficult to reach. The truth was, Valencia has never been able to truly catch and slow his man down enough to carry the night (although he has performed well in the final rounds). Needless to say, Erdenebat earned a win off the judge’s scorecards.
