Alexander-Arnold makes Arsenal title admission because ‘there’s no stopping’ Man City

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is feeling out for Arsenal as there is «no stopping» Man City «once they start winning» during the Premier League run-in.

The Gunners have been superb this season as they exceeded expectations to challenge Man City for the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been top of the table for much of the season but have now been overtaken by City.

Arsenal suffered a difficult spell last month as they went four games without a win. They drew against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton before being beaten 4-1 by Man City.

The London outfit returned to winning ways against Chelsea earlier this week, but City have won nine Premier League games in a row.

As it stands, City will move four points above Arsenal top the leaderboard if they win the remaining game in hand. Pep Guardiola’s side host Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, while the Gunners take on Newcastle at St James’ Park.

If Man City win the league this season, it will be the fifth time they have won the title in the last six seasons.

Liverpool had previously failed in their title race with Man City and Alexander-Arnold thinks «it’s over» as Guardiola’s side «smell the smell of blood at Christmas».

«The championship is obvious now and I’ve been saying that for a while,» Alexander-Arnold told Red Bull. “If City are even close, if they smell blood at Christmas or New Years, it’s really game over.

“There’s no stopping them once they start winning and, at this point, I’d be surprised if they draw. I think it must be a mindset because they don’t even go backwards in games at this point.

“There are no jokes, there are no fears, there are no ups and downs. Arsenal were exciting because they were dropping points, but in an exciting way. While City, I don’t even know how to describe them, are like giants.»

Arsenal may not win the Premier League this season but Arsene Wenger believes they «have the quality» to challenge again next season.

«I think we have in every position in the team a player who has the qualities to deliver the trophy,» Wenger told Sky Sports.

“If it’s not this year, maybe it will be next year, but the quality is there, you know, and above all the team is moving forward, very young.

«But I like the way they play. They’re mobile, they make smart decisions around the box, they play well together, and all the ingredients are there.»
